She scrapped free milk for the over 7s at school, privatised state owned industry, gave council house tenants the ‘right to buy’ their home, took the UK to war with Argentina over the Falklands, incentivised entrepreneurship with the ‘Enterprise Allowance Scheme’, and annihilated the trade unions…

To sum up her controversiality though, she basically rebooted the economy by encouraging massive growth across service industries in the UK, but by privatising the inefficient industries that the UK used to own, she also opened them up to market competition. This allowed us to capitalise on white collar sectors but equally exposed our uncompetitive nature in the blue collar levels of the energy and manufacturing industries. This led to huge areas of the country (and their respective communities) being economically devastated by the change, further entrenching the N-S divide.
